Inspiring or Creepy?
AVONDALE, La. - The USS New York, an amphibious assault ship built with scrap steel from the ruins of the World Trade Center, was christened Saturday as a source of strength and inspiration for the nation.
...
That it could be used in war did not bother Lee Ielpi, president of the September 11th Families' Association, whose son, Jonathan, a firefighter, died in the attacks. The ship won't be used for war "unless you bother us," he said in an interview.
I'd love to agree with Ielpi's assertion, but considering we're currently bogged down in a war in which we were the initial agressors...Well, discuss. Labels: common sense, random, war on tair
at least it's a stupendously vague criterion. awesome.
Yeah, it has "assault" in the description.
was this ship produced by Michael Bay?
An impolitic question:
Is the grief one feels over the loss of a child sufficient excuse for being a pea-brained, imperial apologist, reactionary asshole?
(The assumption, of course, is that there is no such excuse for everyone else.)
I would like to see a Greenpeace ship made out of recycled cars for Artic cruises to watch the last of the icebergs and glaciers melt.
obviously, it's a very low threshold definition of 'bother'
Because nothing honours the dead quite like using the ruins they died in to manufacture the means to make sure they don't lack for plenty of company.
Needs to be a picture of this vessel in the Dictionary, beside the word "MORBIDITY" ... wow.
