To the Creationist...

...Who is disgusted or infuriated by the notion that humans arose from animals, and as such are a form of animal:

What could you, an ostensible Christian, of all people have against humility? What's so despicable about perceived humble beginnings? (I say perceived because there's much greatness and majesty in the animal kingdom, which has bestowed on us many gifts.)

Anyway, I find myself entranced less by the mud whence the shoot sprouted than by the bloom the shoot sends forth.

It's always about insecurity, and therefore is also about the penis.

My dad occasionally sends me evolution-related news articles using "from a fellow primate" as his subject line. It's endearing, but his point is that evolutionally we are still evolving, which is what IDists can't accept, since we're supposed to be created in God's image and therefore perfect.

The cynical line (from I know not where) states that Man, being Man, returned that favour.

Exhibit A: the Christian Right and there repressive, controlling and bigoted hypocrisy. It's nothing more.

You're right. There's plenty of nobility in the Animal Kingdom, and there are plenty of shortcomings in humanity. But this is the same crowd that says gay marriage would threaten straight marriages. They can't logically defend any of it. They just think their world is special and spit on anyone who dares to say, "you know, you're really not all that special."

we are still evolving, which is what IDists can't accept, since we're supposed to be created in God's image and therefore perfect.

Yet they fail to notice how the notion of god has evolved. Heck, there used to be 12 or fifteen of them, now there are three, or one, or three thirds or whatever incarnation this century brings. He evolves with us. In my opinion this is due to the fictional nature of god, but the argument stands independent of my opinion.
